Explore Sinai: destinations beyond Sharm El Sheikh

Find your next destination: explore Sharm, the Gulf of Aqaba, the mountain interior and the western coast through our local guides.

Sinai mountains: a regional landscape, not a photograph of the individual places described below.
Start with the geography
Sinai is not a single coastal strip. A useful way to organise a first journey is to separate the Gulf of Aqaba side, the Gulf of Suez side and the mountain interior. Sharm is a base for many visitors, but a hotel there does not make every destination a short excursion. Begin with the experience you want, then choose a route and the nights needed to enjoy it. The suggestions here are editorial building blocks, not a fixed tour covering every place.
Nabq: distinguish the resort area from the reserve
Nabq Bay is useful when comparing places to stay around Sharm; the Nabq protected area is a separate nature-planning question. Do not assume that choosing a resort with Nabq in its address includes access to the protected landscapes. The environmental authority describes mangroves and varied coastal and desert habitats in the reserve. For a visit, identify the actual entrance, route and guide arrangement. Our Nabq area and nature guides help separate the accommodation choice from the excursion itself.
Dahab: leave time for the town
Dahab can be the focus of a day from Sharm or a place to stay longer. Decide whether your priority is a water activity or time on the seafront: they can fit together, but only if the programme actually allows it. The guide below explores how to give the town space beyond the famous Blue Hole name. The linked excursion page then lets you compare the offered activity and its inclusions. Reading the destination first makes it easier to spot whether a package suits the day you imagined.
North towards Nuweiba and Taba
Consider the coast beyond Dahab when you want to build a stay around a different seaside base. Our Taba and Nuweiba article combines the coastal setting with the story of Pharaoh’s Island and practical questions for arranging a visit. Avoid treating the entire eastern coast as an afternoon add-on. A change of accommodation may be more useful than a very long return transfer, especially if your aim is to spend time by the sea rather than simply photograph several place names.
West towards El Tor and Abu Rudeis
The western coast introduces the Gulf of Suez and a different regional story. El Tor is the governorate’s capital; Abu Rudeis adds a chapter of modern industrial history. Abu Darba belongs to this geographical discussion, but currently has much less verified visitor information. We keep those distinctions visible in the dedicated guides. Choose this part of the peninsula for a deliberately researched journey, with a local operator confirming route and access, rather than replacing the name on an existing Dahab day trip.
Mountains, history and choosing what to leave for next time
The mountain interior deserves its own time. Use our Saint Catherine and Sinai history guides to give a cultural visit context rather than reducing it to a sunrise photo. For a short stay, choose one main excursion theme and leave space for Sharm itself. For a longer trip, build around a small number of overnight bases and confirm each transfer before adding extra stops. Our destination guides explain the places; excursion pages describe specific offers. Check their dates, inclusions and booking conditions separately before buying.
