Start with the government portal
The Ministry of Interior's Egypt e-Visa Portal says that visa rules depend on nationality and purpose of travel. Its FAQ lists the nationalities eligible to apply online and explains that an e-Visa is an official entry document. Check the live eligibility list for the passport you will actually use; do not rely on an old screenshot, a forwarded message or a search-result snippet.
Check the documents and timing
The portal's FAQ currently lists a passport valid for at least six months from arrival, an e-Visa printout, a travel itinerary and, for tourists, hotel booking details among the arrival requirements. Requirements can change and may depend on your case. Follow the portal's current instructions and allow time for processing before you travel.
Avoid lookalike services
Open the official government domain directly from the source link below and compare the address before entering passport or payment details. A travel guide can help you understand the process, but it cannot approve a visa or determine your eligibility. If your nationality, route or length of stay raises a question, contact the relevant Egyptian consular authority or the portal support team.
Timing and eligibility are separate checks
The live Egypt e-Visa Portal currently lists Italy among nationalities that may apply for an e-Visa; being on that list is not a visa-free exemption or a promise of approval. The portal's home page says to create an application at least seven days before departure. If you hold an Italian passport, check the live list and your own itinerary, complete the official application and payment, and leave time for processing. Do not assume an application made closer to departure will be approved in time.
Italian identity card for tourism
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sheet for Egypt was updated on 21 July 2026 and is marked valid through 24 October 2026. It says tourists may use an electronic identity card with more than six months of remaining validity, accompanied by two passport-size photographs, to obtain an entry visa from border authorities on arrival. The sheet says the card alone, without the photographs, is not sufficient. This arrival route is separate from an online e-Visa application. Because the sheet's stated validity ends on 24 October, travellers departing from 25 October should check the latest official country sheet and confirm the requirements for their itinerary before relying on this route.
